Well, I am never about nice looking anything....hehe!!! However, one year, I
did have my kids do centerpieces for our third grade Thanksgiving feast. I
bought some large squash and pumpkins and put them in foam trays with
plasticine surrounding it. I gave the kids feathers, pipe cleaners, seed
pods, giant buttons, beads, twistee wire...whatever I could find...and let
them go! The plasticine served as the "frog" or "oasis". They were so
wild...completely unexpected!

I loved them....the third grade teachers were a little ambivalent...the
parents thought they were great! You could make small ones with
mini-pumpkins. Only trick is you need to use those pointy round tooth picks
to make holes before you stick in pipe cleaners or feathers...etc.. Those
mini-pumpkins are hard as rocks!

Good Luck
