Last year I had my 2nd graders do Grandparent Portraits and it was a big hit!
The kids beought in a picture of a grandparent (or, if they didn't have a
grandparent some facimile) and they worked from that. I bet working from
life when the grandparents are there would be even better. You could give a
step by step lesson on face drawing while the grandparents posed! My little
ones drew them in pencil, went over it in Sharpies, and then painted them in
watercolor. Most of the portraits, I've been told, are framed and hanging in
the grandpartent's home. There were actually resemblences, and what made
them so precious were all those wrinkles, glasses, and grey hairdos.
