Developing K-5 Lesson Plans - response

Date: Tue Oct 30 2001 - 16:30:54 PST

Dear Jozz:
I develop mediums to use for each month so I don't have to change
materials for each class. For instance every grade was using crayons in the
first month for color studies, in September we were exploring using pencil (K
and first never get pencils, but learn how to use hole punchers and scissors
instead), in October we are using clay.
As an example: K and 1st are watching a video on making pinch pots in clay,
2nd is watching a video on making coil pots, third grade is making clay frogs
that uses a pinch pot construction for the body, fourth and fifth are making
clay masks using slab construction and scoring and using slip. Keep the same
mediums throughout the grades but make the lesson appropriate for each grade
level. You don't want to frustrate kindergarten, but you also don't want to
bore fifth grade as some are capable of doing middle school work.
