This series traces the development of uniquely American music genres
during the 20th century, including blues, country, gospel, bluegrass,
Cajun, zydeco, western swing, Tejano and Native American. The first
episode traces the emergence of roots music from its European and
African origins through its maturation into American musical genres

20th century with this companion site that explores the pioneers of
blues, country, gospel, bluegrass, cajun, zydeco, tejano and Native
American music. Access biographies and descriptions of the artists and

innovations behind each style of American music.
