Re: difficult class

Date: Thu Oct 25 2001 - 19:58:25 PDT

Somebody a while back had a good idea that I've used this year.
I write the word "noise" on the board. We talk about working quietly the
first class and I inform them that if they get loud they lose the "e" off the
word. Still noisy, they lose the "s". Stll not working quietly, they lose
the "i". When they get to the word "no", it's silent art,(a boring
proposition). This has worked very well. Also, I have a reward system. If
each person follows the rules, they can earn (individually) one art dollar
each time they come to class. They can buy the following items with their
3 dollars-1 selection from the candy box
5 dollars-1 selection from the prize box
10 dollars-free ice cream
15 dollars-1 free print
20 dollars-1 free art lesson

The kids first through fifth really work hard to earn their dollars. Janet
