I find that...
1) Prang crayons work best...they are "waxier" than
other brands.
2) Students must press down hard.
3) Don't water down the tempera too much...it still
needs to be black, not gray. Experiment until you get
the right consistancy.
4) Use a soft watercolor brush and show students how
to smoothly brush back and forth. Make sure they are
not "scrubbing" or overpainting the surface. Some
want to go over and over one spot until the crayon and
tempera mix and a "resist" doesn't take place.
