Fwd: Edison schools

Date: Wed Oct 10 2001 - 20:06:21 PDT

I am reposting this because I only got one response...surely there are more
out there that can help me.

attached mail follows:

I need some infor about Edison schools...
At my school's site team meeting today, Edison schools were brought up.
Our school has been recognised for excellence in our state, part of that
being that they are often willing to try good solid practices from other
schools that perform well, so being taken over by Edison schools is not the
issue. But some Edison ideas are being considered. Our new Science teacher
(6th) taught in an Edison school and wants to create a Edison science/
computer lab...or something similar.
My question is ...For those that have taught in an Edison school....
Do Edison schools do anything for the Arts?
What are the drawbacks to an Edison Science/Computer lab. Would this lab
have any Visual Art applications?
And if you teach in NY what are the statistics on Edison schools...He made
the statement that Edison schools were doing wonderful in NY. But what I have
heard is that the statistics across the country are dubious.
So I need a bit of feed back.
