i don't know about the surrealism, but not too long ago I was introduced to
an artist by the name of Fannie Brennan, who just died...She paints miniature
images...that are fanciful and have a surrealistic look to them...I was
immediately attracted to her work and found it a good comparison between her
work and Magritte...There is something riveting about her
work..tiny..beautiful and yet very fanciful...There is a book called
Skyshades that has a lot of her work in it...and a gallery on Martha's
Vineyard called Christina's carries some of her lithographs...Her work looks
like a combination of Magritte and Hopper, only positive....You may find
something there...I don't know much about her...one of the grad students that
works for me introduced me to her work and I fell in love with it
immediately..The book is now out of print and going for better than
$100....although its original cost was only 17.50.
I think she has much promise for the future and her pictures reflect the
fancy of childhood intertwined with nature....
