Van Gogh Lesson Plans

My favorite project is having the kids create a beautiful reproduction
(tempera paint) of "The Yellow House" by Van Gogh. The yellow house is where
Gauguin & Van Gogh painted together before Gauguin moved to Tahiti. Then the
kids will draw in Cra-pas individual flowers to attach (cut the flower &
glue) to the bottom of the mural (for a garden) of the the yellow house. The
results are magnificent.
If you are in Chicago for the next coupla weeks, check out the wonderful
exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago of Gauguin & Van Gogh's "The Studio
of the South" exploring the relationship between Vincent Van Gogh & Paul
Gauguin before, during, and after their explosive time together in Arles,
France. I saw it on Sat. and it was GREAT! And I must add, it was nice
getting out of the house and seeing our city filled with a lot of people
walking, jogging, sightseeing, shopping--something we took for granted before
Sept. 11th.
