Plaster handprints

I need to have students K-8 complete Christmas gifts for their parents. For
kindergarten, I have decided to have the students paint plaster casts of
their handprints. I'm having problems finding a mold material soft and
pliable enough for the little ones' hands. Wet sand and playdough both seem
too difficult for the kindergartners to make a clear imprint for the plaster.
Any suggestions for a workable molding material for the plaster cast?
