I walked into my room yesterday at 11:15 and all of second grade were setting
on the floor, in the back of my room. They had moved tables and supplies to
make space. And there set a guest speaker....the look on my face said it all!
One of the teachers came up to me and said that she had put it on "news" last
week to the whole school that they were going to use that art lab. And since
no one emailed her back that they were using the art lab at that time, it was
O.K. My reply was "Do you see a computer in here where I can read Email or
News?" And I also asked why she hadn't emailed just me about using my
Than she told me that anyone could sign up to use my room when I didn't have
a class. I told her that that was only true when I was at other schools....
I was mad! (not very professional on my part) And besides that, on the master
schedule, I have a class listed for that time slot.
It would not have been so bad except that I was going to have 40+ fifth
in my room after lunch and was going to use this time to move supplies
around, to bring in extra chairs, etc., to get ready.
I went right down to the office about all of this. The principal told me that
I needed to be flexible with my room.
I told her that it wasn't so much that they were using my room but that they
didn't email me or talk to me. I pointed out that when a teacher wants to
use the Library for a special project they don't put it on "news" to the
whole school, they ask the Librarian. Why would you put it on "news" to the
whole school to use my room? I don't have time to scroll down over all the
messages that come out on "news."
The up side to all of this is I might get a computer in my room now so that
I don't have to go searching all over the school for one that is free. Hope
I can go back to sleep since it is 3:27 am. I know that I'm the only person
losing sleep over this and that I'm making a big deal out of something small
but still....It makes me mad!
I feel better now. Thanks for listening and have a GREAT day at school.
