I call them whackey-wonderful. Try humor they like that. I've also learned to
keep my voice fairly low so they have to listen. Remember also , although
they are in big bodies, they are still kids at heart. They love the
holidays, etc. Hook on to some of those things . And most important, believe
that they can do better, expect and let them know you can see it happening.
