Re: Writing in the art room

Date: Sat Oct 21 2000 - 16:49:36 PDT

I have always had my students keep a journal for personal reflection,
sketches, samples/ideas etc. It has been a very positive experience for the
classes that I teach, which are Creative Crafts 1, 2, and 3 on the high
school level. We also create hand bound journals and book art. I encourage
them to include text in their artwork as well. I also did writing with 6th
graders when I taught that level. I do not teach composition, grammar,
spelling etc. I just have to be able to understand it. The kids are happy
they don't have to worry about that in my class. It also fulfills the
'literacy goals' of our school district. I'm giving a workshop at the NYC
UFT Conference Nov. 11th...
