Re: Chuck Close video review?

Sharon- I loved the video. I have used it as an intro to the grid system of
enlargement with my 8th through 12th graders. It shows a REAL person with
REAL problems and REAL ways of dealing with them. Close is "colorful" in his
verbage so anyone 7th grade or under would not appreciate the video. There
are some 8th graders who were still immature. Almost all of my HS students
were able to appreciate his work and found him incredibly interesting.
I have also found the video FRIDA KAHLO worthy of student viewing when
studing self-portraiture. Some may consider a bit too graphic as her work
depicts her pain and suffering however the narration is wonderful and jounal
entries are beautifly written. Some 8th graders may find this video hard to
watch however with todays society and pressures, I feel that this video ranks
high on a "MUST SEE" list for all high school art students.
Both videos get 4 stars in my book.....rated for 8-12
