I have never actually had my kids make
clay masks, but I have had them use clay
as an armature for a paper mache mask.
The kids love it because they get to use
clay, and a lot of it. They build their
idea and then cover it with saran wrap
or tin foil and then paper mache. The
result is a light weight mask, with
fantastic details. The clay is usually
bone dry by the time we finish, so I
just recycle it in a big bucket of water
and in about a week it is ready to use
again. This make me feel like I am
getting twice as much use out of my
materials!
