We've been on a block schedule for about 6 years. Good and bad points - we
have 9 blocks, 4 every other day and one 55 min. block(homeroom) every day
- I love the extra time, but 9 classes is ridiculous, I've explained this
under another posting, dang I wish I could type better, I think that the
worst part is seeing kids only 2 or 3 times a week, it's hard to keep any
continuity, also, you will lose so many of your upper classmen to early
release programs, and depending on grad. requirements, ours is 22 going to
24( but 9 X4 =36!!! so they can have 18 by the end of their sophmore year!!)
they'll have 2 classes to take their senior year, so they are very uninvolved
with their school during their last year. As a employee, I work 4 classes a
day, 85 min. prep plus lunch 5 hrs. and 25 min.- as a teacher, working with
during their most fragile and landmine ridden years, I think they need more
time with the same teachers, less classes, and/or a study hall, we need peer
mediation at our school, more teachers for the electives we have so kids can
take them in SMALLER classes.....uh oh!!! there's that soap box again!!!! :-)
