I ask the little kids to look at my
nose, to show me that they are
listening.
With the older kids I will give them a
doodle page (empty page) and tell them
that they don't have to look at me while
they are doodling, but they do have to
listen to what ever I am telling them
about. It is hard (at first) to talk
when everyone is doodling, but they were
paying better attention because they
weren't looking around the room day
dreaming. When I ask questions for
comprehension, they are always right
there with me. I don't know why, but it
works!
