My signal at the beginning of every class is "Welcome to Art". It is their
signal to listen. I always follow the signal by telling them what they will
be doing that day (so no one has to ask me as they come in the door. It is
also written on the board behind me for those that can't understand me (I
have ESL students). I teach this the first day of class as a daily
procedure. -su
