I'm in Tx. This is my 2nd year teaching art, and all the honors art classes
will be phased out in 3 years. There's no AP art planned. I teach art 2,2
honors, 3, 3honors,4 and 4 honors all in 2 classes. I have 4 classes of art
1, and a prom class - yes I'm the Prom queen too!!! I honestly don't even
know what all would be involved in ap art - there wasn't even daily lesson
plans, I've made my own curriculum based on the elements and principles of
art, heavy on the drawing skills and as much art history and creative
thinking as I can....I know I'll be a better teacher 5 years from now, but I
honestly don't think the art program is a big factor to the school board -
not to be mean, but TAAS and special ed. get most of the worry, we're on a
block system with 9 blocks 8 that meet every other day and the 9th that meets
everyday. That's a LOT of classes for freshmen and sophs (even college
students can't take 27 hours...) but it's been this way for 4 or 5 years. by
the time they're juniors they have 18 hours out of 21 - this year they'lve
also changed that to 24, but it's for the incoming freshmen, just like the
new GPA rules.....it's funny(sad?) that some of your districts are switching
away from the system we're switching to!!!!
Anyway, it's late. laters!!!! Deb W.
