How true!!! This summer I worked with the kindergarten teachers in my school. They told me they teach the primary colors....red, blue, yellow, green, purple, orange, black...<g> I explained to them about colors and about the vocabulary I use to talk about color. They were extremely receptive. I also did a staff development project with our reading/writing specialist. The focus was to understand how the same vocabulary was used to discuss similar concepts in art and creative writing. It was very revealing for the writing teacher!!!

It is important for art teachers to understand the entire curriculum. Not only will you interdisciplinary projects be stronger...but with the focus on reading and writing right now....you can use art vocabulary to not only strengthen your students art knowledge and skills...but pull from other areas and reinforce what they are learning across the board! It is a good thing!!!
