Jeanni: the getty/artsednet home page has several articles in support of art
education. You might want to start there.

I'm a classroom teacher and an art teacher who is presently working as a
"coach" at several urban schools who have become "coalition" schools working
toward ed reform.

I think in all the classroom situations I've seen, the most successful
lessons come from hands on, and other perspective kinds of lessons. I think
art beautifully achieves some school reform goals that other subjects can
only hint at. I think art ed helps students become critical thinkers and
helps them to see the world through a different lens than other subjects. I
think making art is therapeutic and kids-at-risk really achieve success in
art when they can't anywhere else in the system.

Anyway, this is kind of choppy. If you have specific questions, I'm happy to
answer them. Thanks for doing this kind of project -- it's really important.
