Sometimes as a reward I let the kids choose a radio station if they are on
task and not talking constantly - whispering a few words is allowed but not
whole conversations - that is for recess I tell them. Two a day!!
I play tapes and NPR - that is great except when Bachs harpsichord music
gets long and I have a group of Country Western lovers. One young man told
me "that harpy stuff drives me crazy - turn it off" I said ok when you turn
your constant talking off. The room got very quiet. Thought when I have to
hold these noisy Bozos in from recess -
(the only weapon I am allowed and they are writing the rules of the art room
over and over till they practice them )- I should play one of the noisiest
operas - lots of
high singing. Any suggestions. ( One detention room in the Chicago area used
to play Sinatra and the kids hated it). Maybe then they won;t repeat their
misbehavior. Roberta
