First-time Painters

They are ready with canvases, brushes, and paints. How do I make it
sure-fire successful?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to introduce a painting unit that
will keep kids from the usual badly-detailed realistic paintings that often
come from first-time experiences?

I don't think I present painting well, and I'd like to do it better this
time. The ceramic suggestions from this group were good. How about some
hot new ideas about painting?
