I have done few large cooperative quilts with my students. We did use Faith
Ringgold as an inspiration. One quilt was made up of pictures of themselves
not portraits but the whole body (twelve students) then strips around those
and a border made of fairly large squares that were cut in half diagonally
and put together again with a piece from a different square. The students
painted on unprepared canvas with acrylic paints, thin paint on damp
canvas. It really came out very nice and is very large. I did however sew
and quilt it. I happen to be a quilt artist.
