<< At the high school level, I have my advanced painting students do a
"cultural self-portrait". They answer a list of questions I give them
(everything from where the ancestors came from to what is the meaning of
their name) and try to connect the answers they discovered to some kind of
imagery they can build a painting around. The students love it, and the
parents do too because the kids talk to them about their heritage and family
What a wonderful idea....and one that can be adapted to even younger kids on
a less formal basis! Thanks.....
