I teach jr. high (6th, 7th, & 8th grade) in a small NE Texas town. Teacher's
dress code allows jeans on Fridays only, the rest of the time we are expected
to dress professionally. I wear the cheapest Chinos I can find and art
T-shirts the majority of the time. On days when nothing messy is planned I
wear the Chinos, white shirt and one of my collection of men's vests I have
painted in the style of various artists.

Students, even those not in my class, drop by to check out my T-shirts and
vests. This gives me a chance to share art with more students. My principal
has been standing nearby when a student has approached me with a question
about my shirt. After this I have never had to worry about the way I dress.
Of course, the principal feels my purple hiking boots are a definite
distraction.
