My answer to Carolyn last weekend did not fit her question, as
Wizzlewolf correctly pointed out to us. Going back a step, I call white,
black and its mixture gray neutral colors. Colors with white added become
tints, grays make tones and black makes shades. This is as complex as I
get with third graders and I hope I am not stirring up another can of worms
on the subject.
