Eliza, Our district used to frown on jeans. We had to wear dress clothes
until the year I started to shake a jar of fluorescent green paint that a
very nice boy had loosened trying to be helpful. Yes, some things really do
occur in slow motion! I had paint head to toe when I walked into the office
and asked our principal if she could cover my class so that I could go
change. That wonderful principal became our assistant superintendant and
eventually the superintendent. She went in to the principals meeting and
told all of the principals that all teachers should dress appropriately to
their job as a matter of professionalism. P.E. teachers wear shorts or
sweats and art teachers should be able to wear denimn to stand up to the
necessary scrubbing. If the principals didn't feel that was fair, they were
welcome to try to create a clothing allowance for their art teachers from
their building budgets.<G> I wear whatever is appropriate to the activities
of the day. Linda K.
