Having been on both sides of the fence, (playing sports and being an
artist) both have their positives and negatives. One is not more important
than the other; they are equal, or equitable. Unfortunately, the rewards for
art education are not visible like a win/loss record. They are seen through
academic progress, through personal growth and through social behavior.
Until schools (and communities) realize art education benefits are not a
matter of plastic trophies, art education funding will follow second to
sport programs. Food for thought.
