Christine:
Interesting that no one has responded to your message yet.
Here's what I know. Maybe some ofyou out there know more. I'm a teacher who
lives in LA and has been a little involved in the Getty DBAE programs and
have been a longtime lurker on artsednet. Interestingly, the Getty changes
have not made the press here as far as I know, but then, art education is
not as sexy as a topic as billion dollar painting purchases. What I know is
gossip but may have a kernel of truth as gossip sometimes does.

The Getty Education program no longer exists. The entire staff was let go
this summer. There is education at the museum but that's it. No national
program, nothing in LA.

Artsednet and its staff was folded into a Getty Internet services
department. This was not a satisfactory change for the more senior
Artsednet staff who have left in the last few weeks. This includes Naree
Wongse-Sanit and Candy Borland. The fate of Artsednet is not known. The
senior administration at the getty doesn't care that they've lost some great
talent.

Ive been wondering when something would come up on this list. Does anyone
have other rumors? Better information?

Does anyone know the status of the Getty Institutes' commitment to
supporting art education, i.e. Artsednet, research, etc?

Thanks, Christine Merriam Kayenta Intermediate School Kayenta, AZ
