Good for you Gail,
Art should not be a handmaiden to pretty
up the other subjects. If you can expand the students thinking
by working with another subject by all means do it. The civil war
and photography comes to mind. I would build a big camera obscura,
I think it would cause students to consider the state of technology
at that time. But it would open up many unexpected doors as well.
That's what good teaching is all about.
