>I hope the innocents who are the targets in Thomas Kinkade's marketing
ploy read Tessa DeCarlo's article "Landscapes by the Carload: Art or
Kitsch?" in November 7th's Art and Leisure section. I had a student
earlier this fall show me the flyer her family picked up along with their
rather expensive purchase in a Tennessee resort town of one of these
dubious products. (I refuse to call this art!) I checked out his website
and was offended by the repeated correlation drawn between the "light" in
the products and religious beliefs. The guy is even selling
pseudo-religious self-help books. I had to communicate and this is what I
sent:
"I am as outraged by your flagrant marketing ploy to the innocent as I am
by the pop star Marilyn Manson's methods of getting newly rebellious
pubescent children to buy his clap-trap. May you enjoy another light in
eternity, the fires of hell."
>Thanks for provoking me to get more information.
