If it is good it
> should sell on its own.

Think about this statement, reflect on it. Do you really mean it.

How about the funding for dance companies, opera, ballet, theater,
shakespeare in the park.
I give money for Habitat for Humanity, If it was good it would sell on
its own ????
We need to fund or help some things because they will not stand alone,
cancer research,
public schools and libraries, and meals on wheels, and yes the arts. I
say more power to
Big Bird. I just wish Arts Education had our own Big Bird or Barney, we
sure need them.
My dear departed Father in law had your attitude. He said that teachers
were parasites
on the public payroll. May he rest in Peace, him and all the Archie
Bunkers of this world.
At least he put his money where his mouth was and sent his kids to
private schools.

I think we are a big enough society and a rich enough one that we can
afford to fund a few extras
like the arts, the parks, public swimming pools, health care for the
children, etc. If our cities can
build multi million dollar stadiums to keep ball clubs in our
communities then we can afford to
spend a few pennies on the arts.
