The response to my value question was tremendous! Thank you all very
much. Last semester I had my classes do value scales. They understand value
scales - and hate them deeply! My students did these not only to acheive
value, but also to learn how to control each medium we used. However, the
problem comes in when applying value to an actual subject, especially when
color is concerned. I think, as suggested, I will get a big light. Hopefully
this will help get the point across! I also like the idea on drawing the
shadows - that sounds neat. I wish I could do the white on black idea, but
my white pencils still have not come in yet. (Maybe now that I have said
something my pencils will come.) Thank you again!
