Lesson Plans

I'm a "regular" classroom teacher (currently a 3/4 split) that uses art in
teaching all my subjects. I believe Art is so important that I added it to
my report cards this year to be graded and averaged along with the other
academic subjects. I guess I didn't realize I could do this before. I
aways taught Art as it's own subject along with incorporating it in with
other subject areas, but never graded it. We don't have an Art teacher in
our building and I am the only teacher, so far, that is "grading" Art. I
can understand why most classroom teachers don't want to deal with an
"extra" subject because we are so overwhelmed with too much paperwork and
with changing gears teaching so many different subjects ( I teach in Detroit
Public Schools) It's especially hard for me since I have a split and must
do 2 sets of lesson plans for all subjects. I'm trying to find the easiest
way to grade the Art so as not to complicate my life more. I figure this
year will be a trial run. I just got the split 3 weeks ago after they
decided to reorganize so didn't count on all this extra stress.
I guess I don't have it as bad as some of you with the stories I've been
hearing. It just boggles my mind to hear how unprofessional some of you are
treated. I guess if those things happened to me I would probably lose my
job for what I would do.
ALSO I want to thank all of you for all the great ideas that I use
constantly in my classroom----in all subjects. Mary
