I teach egg tempera to my HS painting class and have zero problems with smell
or illness. Keep the hands, palettes, brushes and sinks clean. There will
be minimal odor. Wash out the empty egg shells too. Had zero complaints
from the students or neighboring classrooms. Kept my eggs in the school
kitchen. No problem there and everything was fresh each day. I also use the
pure method...powdered pigments and yolk only...but I have also used the
white. This can really create a translucent appearance.
