Jean,
I have been thinking along similar lines and have an idea but don't know
if it will work.
What about screen printing the names using glaze?
I have seen at art conferences/ conventions vendors that promote using
the thermacopier machines in schools as a device to create a screen.
I have wondered if it would work to print words onto glass, or to print
a resist of words onto glass.
I don't know if it will work, but it might be worth a try. I would
assume you would know if it would work before firing the clay, so the
possible loss would only be the experiment.
Let me know if you try this. I am interested in your results. Best
wishes.

Artfully yours,
