Pablo,
I am one of "those" teachers you described, who got certified by excet
test. I take offense to the implication that we haven't "paid our dues"
in getting a fine arts degree. I, like many others, I am sure, were
artists BEFORE we became teachers. I have taken probably as many hours
of courses as you have, in my 10 years as an art teacher. I feel that
my students get a very well rounded elementary art experience. We touch
on art history, many cultures, many mediums. I teach using specific art
terms and have students as young as Kindergarten discussing things like
value and balance and using styles that they will tell you are "like
Mondrian" or "like Picasso." We have frequent critiques and even the
youngest students are learning to use art talk to describe/discuss
artworks. So next time, how about not sweeping us all into such a
broad and negative generalization.

Thanks,

teri mason
