Re: juried student exhibits

I have had juried art shows for the last 28 years. I find it to be a good way
to get a lot of people to come to the show to see who won awards and to give
recognition to those who have done an exceptional job.

These shows are judged by 3 judges and the winners get ribbons and cash
awards. We have an open house show (not judged) that my dept. puts in many
works that would otherwise be left out of the end of the year show. I feel it
is good to have the work judged and the students can see if their work has
won an award.

The ones who don't win must realize that this is only the opinion of just one
group of judges and it could change drastically with another set of judges. I
think it is apart of the real world and that competition is apart of the real
world of art.
