dear Ken,
I'd want to know how old your students are and if the students
themselves would set the criteria for evaluation. In elementary I feel it
could do serious harm. Even "middle aged kids" may not be ready. I'd
rather they know that there is something in each work to appreciate.
Besides-- most of us have had the experience of having the same piece win
an award, then be overlooked in another show. Beauty is in the eye of the
judge. If you teach high school, they may be able to handle it, but
please tread softly. Some will be late blooming artists if they don't get
discouraged now.
