Middle School Schedules

At my school we are trying to revamp the master schedule. We're looking
at the concept of block scheduling and how we can incorporate all the
Unified Arts equitably. Our dilemna is that we seem to be putting too much
on our students plates. I am looking for some creative scheduling ideas.
With our growing enrollment(approx. 640, grades 6-8), I cannot teach art to
every student....do other schools allow for choices? How do you decide
which grade level should or should not get art?
Our students take Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, Reading
and a Foreign Language (unless they require remedial resources). The
Unified Arts offerings are: Art, Tech. Ed. woods, Tech. Ed. graphics,
Living Skills cooking, Living Skills sewing, Computer, Music, Theater,
Library, Health & Phys. Ed. (both required for all grade levels). We are
also trying to figure out how to offer band & chorus during the school day,
I'd appreciate any information that can be shared with me on this subject.
Examples of how courses are offered at other schools would be helpful. If
anyone wishes to send me a copy of their schedule my address is:
