I really like the lesson that involves having students familiarize
themselves with Egyptian gods and then look out for them in videos and
pictures. The student who found them "almost pretty" afterward should be
challenged to explain what the difference between 'pretty' and 'beauty' is.
The lesson might also be extended to a discussion of definitions of
"style." Kids are geniuses, of course, at recognizing styles of cars,
music, make-up, etc. and this could be a good starting place. I have
thought about asking kids to describe the styles of clothing of other
students in the class, but decided against this since so many students at
various ages are so self-conscious. But cars should be safe! What might
an Eygptian car have looked like----e.g. a Pharoah-mobile? Marcia
