My interest at school is in teaching about cultures inclusively which to me
means giving the most attention to the arts and beliefs of the cultures we
study. I was, therefore, really fired up by an article in the fall 1998
issue of "Teaching Tolerance", entitled "Why Does the Buddha have Long
Ears?". It describes a program developed by Ray Williams, curator of
education at the Ackland Art Museum on the University of North Carolina
campus at Chapel Hill. The program allows and encourages students to
explore religious diversity through art; the article is both fascinating
and encouraging. "Teaching Tolerance" is published by the Southern Poverty
Law Center in Montgomery, Al;
