I just did a cave painting day where I covered the walls with butcher paper,
elected some "torch bearers" to hold flashlights, gave everyone else chalk or
charcoal, and we drew ice age animals in the dark on the walls. A couple of
the kids did some really nice images.
We talked at the end about what similarities of experiences we might have
shared with the cave painters and why the artists might have put those
pictures on those French walls in the first place. Some of my kids were pretty
perceptive and eloquent with their answers.
All of this went along with what they were studying in Social Studies, too, at
