Thanks so much for all the wonderful responses and suggestions you gave
to my situation with the irrate parent. I called her yesterday and
calmly talked to her about my curriculum and how I was only teaching Day
of the Dead as a type of Memorial Day and not as an evil religion. I
also told her that her son never mentioned to me that he didn't feel
comfortable making a skeleton and that I would have probably come up
with an alternate way for him to do the lesson if he had asked.
Apparently the kid told her that he did tell me and that I told him it
wasn't a Halloween lesson and that he had to do it. I told her he could
do a person instead of a skeleton and she seemed to be okay with that.
We talked for about 10 minutes, actually I did most of the talking, and
at the end she seemed to be okay with everything. I'll let you know if
I hear anything else from her. Thanks to the person who said, "because
she WROTE a letter instead of coming in and talking to my face, she was
probably a paper tiger." I think you were right! Thanks again
everyone! I feel much better about the situation.
