Somebody last spring ( maybe Alix?) mentioned sending the students' portfolios
home at end of term with a form containing some questions for the parents to ask
their children to answer, pertaining to what they had learned.
At least that's how I interpreted it. Anyway, I gave it a try this past week and
was VERY pleased with the results. I went over the form with my middle-schoolers,
nothing too complicated, and emphasized this was their chance to impress their
parents. Sort of a show-and-tell at home, I said.
Big success. No artwork casually slipped into the garbage on the way out my
door. Parents report that the presentations were not only made to mom but to
grandma, aunt Edith, etc. The kids appear to have gotten lots of positive feedback
and parents now have an awareness of my art program.
Thank you, whoever suggested this. I love this listserve!
