Do not know if this will help, but, in my classes, when we look at and
discuss an artwork, students must use a sentence. Then I repeat what
they said. (My goal is to encourage language arts and use of sentences
as well as re-enforcing the behaviors)
I wonder if this practice of understanding what a sentence is while
talking (vs a phrase) might carry over to writing and help students
"hear" punctuation, then see it?
