Hi friends. Today at lunch in my mailbox was a letter from the =
principal saying the elementary teachers at my school wanted all the =
special teachers to be consistent in giving grades. So next Wednesday =
the principal wanted 3 grades for each student in the elementary school =
in her box. Preface: We have always given an effort grade and a conduct =
grade (and those were plus, check, and minuses) in the elementary school =
for the specials except the Spanish teacher who likes to give letter =
grades because she needs that threat for control of the kids. WELL, I =
don't approve of giving only "good art work" an A at the elementary =
level and promptly wrote off a terse letter to all the elementary =
teachers saying if I had to now evaluate their work for a "quality" =
grade the last day of the quarter wasn't a nice time to tell me and it =
went against everything I stood for in encouraging kids to love art =
etc....and made copies and put one in each box and the principals...and =
two teachers immediately went in to the principal's office and told her =
there must be a mistake...that wasn't what they meant...they just wanted =
us (special teachers) to see the new report card now has under effort =
and conduct 5 choices and they want us to use numbers. Well, it worked. =
Everything is back to normal! I just wanted to mention this because we =
had just been having grading discussions and because I felt I won one =
for ART!!!!
