Re: observational drawing

I'm finding the information on teaching drawing very interesting. My question
to everyone is just how much time do you devote to formal teaching of drawing
skills at the elementary level. As evidenced by books such as those by
Mona Brooks, we could spend the whole year just teaching drawing. Yet, within
a school year that provides only about 35 art classes in the year, we need to
teach other skills and provide learning experiences that relate to a number
of other topics of study and media. I can see teaching private lessons
focusing on drawing skills, but within an elementary classroom, we need to
balance the formal teaching of observational drawing with a list of many other
skills and concepts. Carol
