I would like to respond to the inquiry question, "What ecological issues
are important in your community?" There are several ecological issues that
are important in the communities of Tucson. I think one of the most prevalent
is the effects of growth here in Tucson. Tucson is expanding and therefore
more land is being "used up". Also, several golf communities are being
developed and so many natural resources, such as water, are being used more.
An ongoing issue is that of recycling. The University, as well as the
entire city, produces a lot of trash and waste. The University has
implemented a recycling program and it appears to be successful, however, I
still think that more could be done. Another ongoing concern is pollution.
Tucson is becoming a large city and therefore we have a lot of pollution from
the many cars on our roads. Overall, I think that the city of Tuscon has
similar ecological issues to all of the other cities in the country.
